MASTERCLASS BIAS CUT

Nederlandse versie

A dress that is cut on the bias breathes absolute glamour and comfort.

However, the making of garments on the bias is very tricky and requires a totally different way of thinking in terms of cutting, shaping and sewing material.

In 2014, couturier Leon Klaassen Bos developed a 5-day master class for experienced tailors to delve into the secrets of bias cut thread.

The online masterclass consists of videos about the technique, the history and current trends. You will learn the tricks behind the sewing and cutting techniques, as well as how to make a pattern for a garment.
During the masterclass you will make a bias cut dress, and you are guided step by step what to do; from development to finishing.

To gain a deeper understanding of this technique, Leon discusses the work of couturiers such as Vionnet, Galliano and Halston.
Next to the style story, you will also see how these designs and patterns were developed.

Using his own creations and his experience in haute couture, Leon shows how he has applied bias cut.

The goal is that you really learn to fully understand how to develop bias cut creations.

Participants will have access to the master class' YouTube channel, and experiences can be shared on the forum on Facebook. If there are any questions during this master class, Leon is at your disposal via Zoom or Whatsapp.

Designer John Galliano is the designer who in the early 1990's brought back this incredibly technique to the fashion world. He is one of the rare couturiers who really understand the technique of bias cut by studying the works of Madeleine Vionnet.

In 2011 he made the wedding dress for his close friend Kate Moss: a bias cut gown made of fabrics like embroidered tulle, crepe de chine and chiffon.
